researching at HARC

The Hentland project research group session on 17th April at the Herefordshire Archive and Records centre (HARC) researched the Hentland Parish Book 1817-1923 (J66/1) for records relating to tiles, seats/pews, chancel etc during the mid 19th century.

The group also went through the Hopton notes 1916 P831 for similar information and linking Hentland as a chapelry of Lugwardine, that Richard of Rotherham rebuilt the chancel about 1430, and that coloured glass inserted in the east window was put in by him with a Latin text translated 'pray for the soul of Richard Rotherham'. In 1611 John Swayne of Kynaston gave a sword to the value of...... to make a new pulpit and the chancel was painted when the organ was built given by Thomas Powell of Pengethley.
